REQUEST

A critical dependency is old, weird and barely maintained.

01

Chris

“We should own this critical path.”

The dependency’s last release was three years ago.

02

Alex

“A rewrite lets us fix the model instead of copying the mistakes.”

The new architecture is genuinely beautiful.

03

Jo

“The old one still works.”

She closes another compatibility ticket.

04

Six months later

Legacy: 94% of production traffic. Rewrite: 100% of the architecture documentation.

Both are now critical systems.

OBSERVED BEHAVIOR

Legacy code is code that survived contact with reality.
