💡 WHY CHRIS IS RIGHT
Permissive licenses let anyone take the code, run it as a service and keep every improvement private. The AGPL closes that gap: anyone who runs a modified version for users over a network must offer those users the source. That keeps the project and its improvements in the commons, protects against a cloud provider selling it back to us, and guarantees the code stays forkable whoever owns the company next.
